with a small overhead, the SEF is able to drop most of the injected false
reports.
The development of secure routing protocols for sensor networks is a challenging
e?®ort because sensor nodes have limited resources in terms of computation,
communication, energy supply, storage, etc. So far, only few secure
routing protocols (which consider security during the protocol design time)
have been proposed for sensor networks. Secure routing in sensor networks
remains a largely unexplored issue and this topic has started to attract more
and more researchers.
6 Conclusions
Security is very important for many sensor networks. Due to the limited capabilities
of sensor nodes, providing security to sensor networks is a challenging
task. In this chapter, we summarize typical attacks on sensor networks, and
we present the current state-of-art of research on sensor network security. We
focus on two important security issues in sensor networks ??” key management
and secure routing. Many key management schemes have been proposed for
sensor networks. Recent research suggests that key pre-distribution scheme
is a promising practical option for key management in sensor networks. E?±-
cient and secure routing is critical for the successful operation of many sensor
networks.
