These nodes will die out quickly, which may cause more nodes to die. We
will improve the ID based and the topology based schemes by re-electing
clusterheads at proper times. The current Forest scheme does not precisely
consider the remaining energy of a node when choosing clusterheads. Being
clusterheads will not consume the same amount of energy as others, so a

threshold related to the residual energy may contribute to prolonging the
system lifetime. We will improve Forest to include this.
Future work will be conducted to extend the network simulator ns2 using
LEACH, Max-Min and Forest to support upper layer protocols in data gathering
and dissemination. The integrated simulation environment will provide
more detailed comparison on their performance.
