"CCNP ISCW Portable Command Guide"

31c0.9bfa Manually sets a MAC
address (for authentication
purposes)
NOTE: Some cable
service providers use
the MAC address of the
host PC connected to
the cable modem as
authentication or link it
with the DHCP process.
Some cable modems
have used the MAC
address of their ?¬?rst
connected host as the
only valid user. Manual
con?¬?guration of a MAC
address at the router/
modem interface can
solve these problems.
Edmonton(config-if)#ip address dhcp Sets the dynamic
addressing as DHCP
Edmonton(config-if)#no shutdown Enables the interface
Edmonton(config-if)#exit Exits interface
con?¬?guration mode
Con?¬?guring a Cable Modem Connection 17
Step 2: Con?¬?gure Local DHCP Service
Edmonton(config)#ip dhcp excluded-address
10.10.30.1 10.10.30.5
Excludes an IP address
range from being offered
by the router??™s DHCP
service
Edmonton(config)#ip dhcp pool CLIENT-1 Enters dhcp-con?¬?g mode
for the pool CLIENT-1
Edmonton(dhcp-config)#import all Imports DHCP option
parameters into the DHCP
server database from
external DHCP servicer
NOTE: Any manually
con?¬?gured DHCP option
parameters override
the equivalent imported
DHCP option parameters.
Because they are obtained
dynamically, these
imported DHCP option
parameters are not
part of the router
con?¬?guration and are
not saved in NVRAM.
