It is important to understand the capabilities and limitations
of HTTP compression in ISA Server, however.
HTTP compression will only occur if the web server and web client both support the
industry standard Deflate and GZIP algorithms. This applies to Windows 2000 and greater
version of IIS and also to Internet Explorer 4.x and greater.

NOTE
Enabling HTTP compression for a network element is a global policy setting that
applies to all rules pertaining to the network element that it applies to.
The HTTP compression settings for ISA can be found under the General node in the
Details pane. Clicking on the Define HTTP Compression Preferences link invokes the
HTTP Compression dialog box, shown in Figure 8.10. This dialog box is divided into three
tabs, the General tab simply allows for HTTP compression to be turned on and off. The
Return Compressed Data tab allows an administrator to define which clients will be
subject to HTTP compression. Finally, the Request Compressed Data tab allows an administrator
to define when HTTP compression is requested based off of the destination of the
traffic.
