The lyrics came from
resident poet Keith Reid. The signature organ melody was
the work of Matthew Fisher, the band??™s featured keyboardist,
who wasn??™t credited on the original composition, to his long
consternation. In December 2006, nearly 40 years after the
Summer of Love, Fisher had his day in court and won. The
royalties from his new co-authorship credit should secure
him a very happy retirement indeed, pending appeal by
Mssrs. Brooker and Reid.
